Internal research & data

Person analyzing charts on a laptop during a meeting.

The Mission

I assist organisations to analyse and/or collect data to:

  1. Develop an evidence-based understanding that can help them understand their people, and plan accordingly
  2. Identify areas for growth and set targets; and
  3. Monitor progress over time

Organisations often have substantial amounts of data, but limited capacity to interpret it. My mission is to collect the right information from the right sources, to develop a big-picture context that is not disconnected from the people on the ground.

My role is to help organisations ask the right questions, gather meaningful information, and identify patterns that can inform priorities, targets and practical interventions. The goal is not simply to produce a report. It is to generate evidence that supports better decisions and creates a credible foundation for organisational improvement.

The Approach

My approach combines qualitative and quantitative methods to build a detailed picture of organisational culture, workforce experience and capability. Depending on the project, this may include staff surveys, interviews, focus groups, consultation workshops, and/or reviewing existing internal data or policies.

I design customised and co-designed data collection tools built around the organisation’s aims and questions, rather than relying solely on generic engagement measures. Together, we will develop a plan to either assess your progress towards existing organisational culture goals; or develop an evidence-base upon which those goals can be established through strategic planning. Results are then translated into measurable priorities and realistic improvement targets. I aim to ensure the tools we develop can be re-used over time to chart progress.

I analyse findings to identify recurring themes, areas of strength, points of risk and gaps between organisational intentions and everyday practice. Where appropriate, an intersectional approach can be used to examine how factors such as gender, disability, neurodivergence, culture, seniority and employment conditions may shape workplace experiences.

The Expertise

As a scholarly researcher I am experienced in advanced research design, data collection and both qualitative and quantitative analysis. I have worked on a variety of small and large-scale  government-funded research projects, and supported organisations to develop data collection tools and analyse data sets with an aim of assessing staff wellbeing. I am experienced in managing complex and diverse stakeholder groups, and ensuring data collection and reporting is accessible to a general audience.

I have experience interviewing, surveying, and co-designing with diverse participant groups, facilitating discussions about sensitive or complex issues, and identifying patterns across individual accounts without over-simplifying the results.  My background also allows me to support organisations through the full research cycle: clarifying the research questions, selecting appropriate methods, designing instruments, collecting data, analysing findings, communicating results and developing action plans. This means the research can be designed from the outset to support practical decision-making, and establish a stronger evidence-base for pursuing organisational culture goals.

Past Experiences Include:

  • Working with data across a range of large, complex organisations including universities, hospitals, and research centres to:

(a) Analyse data and communicate results to general or executive audiences

(b) Identify key themes that emerge from the data, and strategise solutions

  • Supporting research projects for the  Victorian State Government (DFFH)
  • Designing research tools used by major public hospitals (RMH, Eastern, etc.)
  • Interpreting staff, student, and patient experience data
  • Assessing existing organisational data collection instruments
  • Designing and delivering surveys, interviews and focus groups on culture
  • Managing data within complex ethical requirements (e.g. government-funded research; human participant research; data from hospitals, etc.)

Research and data services

Surveys

Interviews and/or Focus-Groups

Interviews and/or Focus-Groups

Developing surveys to assess staff or student experiences, analysing the results, and communicating them to key stakeholders. This service can also be bundled with Strategic Advising services to assist with developing organisational responses to the survey outcomes.

Interviews and/or Focus-Groups

Interviews and/or Focus-Groups

Interviews and/or Focus-Groups

Supporting your organisation to seek feedback on key priority areas. This could include consultations for strategic planning, change processes, assessing leadership capability,  and/or EDI initiatives, and assessing the data to identify areas and strategies for organisational culture uplift.

Existing Internal Data

Interviews and/or Focus-Groups

Existing Internal Data

Working with your existing internal data sets and collection tools. This can involve reviewing their functionality, and identifying areas for improvement; and working with your data to communicate it to key stakeholders, and/or advise on strategic responses to address areas for improvement.

Pairing Data Collection with Strategic Advising and Planning

Turn your data into measurable culture uplift outcomes by pairing data collection services with strategic planning and/or advising services.
